Shenzhen is much easier when your transport stack works.

Metro

The metro is often the most predictable way to move around Shenzhen. It is especially useful for commuters, visitors, and people who want to avoid traffic uncertainty.

Taxis and ride hailing

Ride hailing is useful for apartment viewings, supplier meetings, late nights, and trips with luggage or samples. Save addresses carefully and expect communication from drivers.

Border and airport logic

Shenzhen’s position next to Hong Kong is useful, but crossing between Hong Kong and Shenzhen still requires planning. Check the relevant checkpoint hours, visa status, luggage constraints, and onward transport.

High-speed rail

High-speed rail connects Shenzhen to Guangzhou, Dongguan, Hong Kong, and broader China. It can be extremely useful for supplier visits outside Shenzhen.

Commute planning rule

Do not only ask how far something is. Ask:

• Is it on the same metro line?
• How many transfers?
• Is it peak hour?
• Is there luggage or samples?
• Is a taxi faster or slower at that time?
• Can the driver find the exact gate or building?
